As for to-do lists, task lists should be associated with projects. E-mail is for communication. When I look at a task list, I want to have a specific project in mind. Combining this with an e-mail client blurs that line and allows the application to distract me from critical tasks.
Airmail, the third party email client for Mac, has been updated to version 3, bringing some major new features to the popular application and a redesigned interface.
One to Keep an Eye On is an intriguing email client. It looks a little bit like the Gmail web interface (if you use the list view) and supports Gmail keyboard shortcuts, but it’s more polished and sports a clean user interface and great typography. Mailspring is free and open-source (which makes it very easy to extend with Javascript plugins), and because it’s born from web code, it supports all platforms and email providers.
There are a lot of good workflow, organizational and project management features in Airmail, and the ability to customize your specific workflow is very good. All that said, this has to be the buggiest, most troubling piece of higher-level and higher price point (for email clients) software for Mac I’ve ever used, especially for something as simple as managing email accounts. Both the iOS and MacOS versions have a host of buggy problems that I experience regularly. I use 3.2.4 for MacOS, and 1.5.4 for iOS on iPhone 6. The worst on iOS is the app freezes or has a 1-2 minute latency fairly regularly. My entire phone freezes when I attempt to tap a notification on the homescreen to open an email.

Sorting One of Airmail’s greatest strengths is the number of ways you can sort through mail. You can sort for unread, starred, attachments, conversations, and particular dates as well as many other criteria. Other e-mail clients were far more functional but (more) unreliable, laggy and had compatibility issues with Exchange servers.
